An online and print magazine devoted to emerging artists and a curious audience, published by Subbacultcha, an Amsterdam-based platform. Styled as a broadsheet newspaper, The Void was conceptualised and designed by Lin Ven, and edited by Sydney van Nieuwaal, Angela Donskaia, and Hannah Pezzack. Selected pieces include:
An Interview with Lyra Pramuk
An ethereal songstress who composes music that shimmers with an intense golden heat, Lyra Pramuk blends together classical singing with contemporary club culture and performance art. Now based in Berlin, Lyra is part of the Holly Herndon ensemble and has collaborated on Colin Self’s MoMA debut. Pressing pause on her busy schedule, she discusses technological landscapes, poetry, and everything in between.
An Interview with Carla dal Forno
Pensive and bleakly insightful, Carla dal Forno fuses together post-punk and folk, wielding the melancholia of the two genres to find light in the darkest of shadows. Having relocated to London, the Australian multi-instrumentalist reflects on inner-city wandering and her latest release, Look Up Sharp. The album makes its debut on her own, recently established, label Kallista Records.
An Interview with Céline Gillain
Spiralling alt-pop. Sci-fi personas. Feminist storytelling. These are just some of the elements of Céline Gillain’s performance piece ‘Fright’, set to take place at ISOamsterdam as part of Amsterdam Art Weekend. On her debut record Bad Woman, the Belgian musician and artist utilised electronica to comment on relationships, late capitalism, fame, and power. Drawing on the same discursive and darkly comedic energy, Céline works through her debilitating stage fright, questioning what powerful realisations can come from embracing vulnerability.
